I love thunderstorms. Days like today make me want to stay in bed with a hot cup of coffee or tea, and write, think, pray and sleep. I am such a “doer” that it’s hard for me to stop and just “be.” It’s so important though, for anyone but especially an artist & photographer. We can get so caught up in our daily tasks that we forget how to stop, take time to dream and think outside the box, to relax and just be creative as God meant us to be.
I have been thinking alot about my business and how I have go through my daily tasks. I get caught up in worrying about finishing edits sooner than later. I put alot of pressure on myself to get things done quickly, but all that does is make me more stressed. There is something to be said for taking your time, walking away from a project, coming back to revisit and see things you didn’t notice before. I never understood why other photographers took months to finish a wedding (when I first started this business). Now I get it! Not only are we super busy with a gazillion shoots and photos to go through, it’s really important to take our time. Just like painting a picture should never be rushed, neither should editing photographs.
If it’s taking your photographer a while to get your photos back, hang tight! It will be worth the wait.
If you are a photographer and you feel under pressure to finish things quickly, stop and realize you will always have a project to finish. There will always been emails to read and answer….it WILL get done. (I am hoping to take my own advice as I write this :D).
